Why Solar Home Advocate Exists
We built Solar Home Advocate because we kept seeing the same thing happen to homeowners across the country — and nobody was doing anything about it.
People are signing solar contracts they don't fully understand, paying more than they were told they would, and finding out too late that getting out isn't an option. Meanwhile, the companies responsible are filing for bankruptcy, getting sued, or quietly moving on to the next neighborhood.
Someone needed to sit on the homeowner's side of the table. So we built a place to do that.
What's Actually Happening in the Solar Industry
Over the last few years, more than 100 solar companies have filed for bankruptcy or shut down. State attorneys general across the country have opened investigations into deceptive sales practices. The FTC is looking at how solar is being sold door to door. Class action lawsuits are stacking up.
And more than five million American homes now have solar panels. The vast majority are under long-term financial contracts they don't fully understand — many with clauses their solar salesperson never explained.
Most homeowners don't have any idea this is happening. That's the problem we're here to fix.

What We Do Every Day
Track the Industry
We monitor active lawsuits, bankruptcies, AG investigations, and FTC actions nationwide. When something happens in the solar industry that affects homeowners, we report it — sourced and in plain English.
Explain Your Rights
Solar contract law is complicated. We break it down state by state so you can understand what you signed, what your rights are, and what your options look like. No legal jargon, no gating, no forms to fill out just to read an article.
Connect You With Help
If your solar company misled or deceived you in any way, we connect you with people who can actually help you do something about it. Free consultations, no cost, no obligation, available nationwide.
Publish What We Find
Every article, every data report, every state guide is sourced from public record — court filings, AG actions, FTC reports, BBB data. We publish what we find, whether it's popular or not.
What We Don't Do
- We don't sell solar panels or solar services
- We don't represent solar companies
- We don't charge homeowners for anything on this site
- We're not a law firm (we can connect you with people who can help if you need it)
We're independent. We don't work for solar companies, we don't work for the government, and nobody pays us to say what we say. Our research comes from public record — court filings, AG actions, FTC reports, and BBB data — and we report what we find.
